Meet the friendly faces behind South Melbourne Optical.
David Asp
Optometrist & Co-Owner
David has been a practicing optometrist since graduating from the University of Melbourne in 1997. He joined South Melbourne Optical the following year and became co-owner in 2004. With decades of experience, David is passionate about providing thorough, personalised care, with a focus on eye health management—particularly cataract, diabetic, and retinal assessments. A lifelong baseball enthusiast, he enjoys helping patients choose the right sports eyewear, combining clinical expertise with real-world experience.
Outside the clinic, David stays active in the Victorian Baseball community and enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two kids.
Sara Fenton
Optical Dispenser & Co-Owner
Sara has been with South Melbourne Optical since the day it opened in 1992 and became a co-owner in 2004. With a deep knowledge of frames and lens technology, Sara is known for making customers feel confident and comfortable with their eyewear choices. She has a keen eye for fashion and a love for bold, quirky frames that let your personality shine through.
When she’s not in the store, Sara enjoys life in the rural northeast suburb, spending time with her family and relaxing with her dogs.
Janell Williams
Optical Dispenser
Janell joined South Melbourne Optical in 2017 and has been working in optics since 2015. She brings a hands-on approach and a love for problem-solving to the team, thriving on the challenge of getting things just right. Janell is passionate about helping customers feel great and confident in their eyewear.
In her downtime, Janell can be found riding her motorcycle, hiking through nature, or getting creative with pottery.
